Selection of the MAD Representative to the
BHS International Senior Quartet Contest at Mid-Winter
Any senior quartets desiring to represent the Mid-Atlantic District at the International Senior Quartet Contest held annually at the BHS Mid-Winter
Convention will need to have initially competed at one of the spring quartet contests (Prelims, Central, Northern or Southern). At a minimum,
the top three (3) senior quartets (overall), who competed at one of the MAD spring contests will be invited to compete in the semi-finals
round at the MAD Fall District quartet contest. Based on those fall contest scores the highest scoring senior quartet from the Fall District
Quartet Contest will be named the MAD representative to the International Senior Quartet Contest. All other senior quartets from that contest,
based on their on-round MAD Fall District senior quartet contest scores, may be invited by the BHS to fill in the competition field at Mid-Winter as "wildcard" quartets.
It is highly possible that some of the senior quartet competitors from the spring prelims and division quartet contests will ALSO qualify for the non-senior district quartet contest.
When this happens, ALL of the senior quartets that also qualified as non-senior quartets for the MAD Fall District quartet contest will be added into the senior international
preliminary competition. This number may exceed the aforementioned minimum of three (3) senior quartets.
If no senior quartets also qualify for the non-senior district quartet contest, then the top three (3) senior quartets from the spring contests will be
invited to the fall district quartet semi-finals contest (in addition to the normal 25 non-senior competitors) to compete in the one-round international
preliminary senior quartet contest ONLY. If only one senior quartet also qualifies as a non-senior quartet, then two more senior quartets will be invited
to the fall district quartet contest and those two quartets will only compete as senior quartets. Similarly, If only two senior quartets also qualify as
non-senior quartets, then one senior quartet will be invited to the fall district quartet contest and that one senior quartet will only compete as a senior quartet.
Should any of the top three senior quartets from the MAD spring quartet contests decline the invitation to compete at the MAD Fall District
senior quartet international preliminary contest, the next senior quartet(s), in order of finish at the spring contests (overall) will be invited
to compete until a total of three (3) have accepted the invitation to compete.
